Celebration and Fire

On May 29, 2005 the congregation at Candlelight enjoyed both a day of celebration and destruction.

The day opened with James Burton Coffman preaching his first sermon after turning 100 years old on May 24, 2005. After services we all moved into the Fellowship Hall to congratulate three young Christians upon completing their High School Education.

At about 11:00 pm the alarm service called and it was found that the building was on fire. A terrible lightning storm was passing through and it looked like the building was struck by lightning. Numerous calls from home and cell phones were placed to 911 and went unanswered. The first fire trucks arrived approximately 30 minutes after the calls began. From that point on it was a matter of controlling the fire so that the education/fellowship building was saved.
